Coiste Gaeilge na nDaltaí

Our student Gaeilge committee aims to promote the Irish language in the school and encourage other students to speak Irish with pride outside.  They provide the students with opportunities to use the Irish language at social events outside of class times.

There are representatives from each class on the committee. 

The committee have regular meetings during the year to discuss upcoming events and plans to promote Gaeilge in the school. Teachers are responsible for supervising the meetings.

The committee play a central role in the following school events:

Comórtas peile na Gaeltachta for Secondary Schools  

Sports Days 

Open Days/Nights  

Seachtain na Gaeilge  

Guest Speakers 

The committee go on a school trip every year.

The committee have a notice board in the school to share information with other students and to keep them up-to-date with their activities.

The Gaeilge committee officers attend training in Galway each year which is hugely beneficial to them.

Induction Phase

Six week transition programme for 1st Year students.

‘Is Leor Beirt’

Conversation circle each week for students to practice their conversational Irish away from the classroom.  

Club Gaeilge

Club Gaeilge at lunchtime to allow students to play games and have fun while practicing their Irish.

Support for Gaeilge

We make every effort to provide support for students to help them transition into immersion education, and to become more comfortable speaking the Irish language daily. 

Gaeilgeoir na Míosa

Monthly competition with a prize of 20 for the student who makes the most effort to speak Irish.

Scholarship to the Gaeltacht

Scholarship prize which is open to 1st Year and 2nd Year students.

English Books

For any students struggling with the Irish language, we can provide english-medium books to help with homework.
