Mission Statement and Ethos

Coláiste Muire is a Catholic Voluntary Secondary school in a Gaeltacht region dedicated to the provision of a holistic education of students, with special considerance to the promotion of the Irish Language and the celebration of the Irish culture.

The school operates on the fundamental Christian principle of Treat others as we ourselves would like to be treated. The school authorities and staff work to try ensure a safe school environment for all who attend, work and visit.

We strive to create an environment whereby students can flourish academically, mentally, physically, spiritually and socially, cognisant of individual needs, while fostering a deep love for the Irish culture and language.

Ethos

Our school concentrates on the development of the whole person by providing for the moral, physical, social, spiritual and intellectual development of our students.

No principle of selection that excludes students because of status, background, family or academic ability is employed, except in the case of those whose presence in the school would put the welfare of others in the school, seriously at risk.

Our core values
  • Commitment to Academic Excellence - a culture of achievement, in an inclusive educational environment.
  • Commitment to Holistic, All-round Development - a balanced and broad curriculum which supports each student to reach their full potential.
  • A Caring, Inclusive Catholic Education - which encompasses faith formation, respect for diversity and a commitment to social justice.
  • The Importance of Community - a partnership approach between parents, pupils, staff and the local community.
  • The Dignity of the Person - respect for each individual member of the school community.
  • Futures Oriented - rooted in tradition but with a focus on innovative practice
Vision

In a rapidly changing, diverse, and multi-cultural society, Coláiste Muire will:

  • Remain at the forefront of international best practice in education by adopting a dynamic and innovative approach.
  • Be at the cutting edge of co-educational, holistic, inclusive educational thought and practice.
  • Demonstrate commitment to social justice as a faith-based school.
  • Equip and empower young people to become innovators, leaders, advocates, critical thinkers and compassionate citizens of the world.

‘Treat others as we ourselves would like to be treated’.
